About the Centre

Staff meeting

Queen Mary’s Centre aims to solve societal problems through partnerships, collaborations and research. The Centre creates new knowledge together with public-sector organisations, the business community and civil society. Through innovative networks, socially relevant knowledge and communication, the Centre strives to increase our chances of solving the great challenges of our time.

We always put the human being at the center and focus on developing viable solutions that can lead to positive change. The Centre is a joint venture between the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen. We cooperate closely with HM The Queen, who also sits on the Advisory Committee.

HM The Queen officially opened the Centre on 2 February 2022 in connection with Her Majesty's 50th birthday.

Funding

Queen Mary’s Centre is funded by the University of Copenhagen. The University covers the Centre’s operating costs.

In addition, the philanthropic association Realdania has committed to investing DKK 25 million in the Centre. Among other things, this investment shall support initial method development, specific partnerships focussing e.g. on how our physical surroundings impact our work, everyday and leisure life, and finally, the sharing of knowledge created by the Centre and stakeholders.

Organisation

Queen Mary’s Centre is headed by Simon Kjær Hansen, who is responsible to a Steering Committee comprised of the Deans for Social Sciences, Humanities, Theology and Law.

The Centre's Academic Coordination Committee promotes discussion of the rooting of activities in academic environments at the faculties and acts as assessment committee in connection with the distribution of research funds

The Centre’s Advisory Committee was established in 2022 and is comprised of leaders from a wide range of societal institutions. The Advisory Committee does not have decision-making authority. Instead, it advises the Center Management on cooperation and development opportunities.
