Many researchers seek to produce knowledge that has a clear societal impact. At the same time, many professionals have a need for research-based knowledge that can inform new solutions. To address this dual need, Queen Mary’s Centre has developed expertise in helping university researchers and external partners design and carry out co-created research projects.

The purpose of co-created research projects is to develop new knowledge that both demonstrates academic rigor and helps address a concrete challenge faced by one or more collaborators outside the university.

When Queen Mary’s Centre supports the development of a co-created research project, the first step is always a problem scoping session, carried out through dialogue between researchers and the external partner(s). The project’s next steps are then developed through a continuous exchange between researchers and the external partner(s).

Co-created research projects are always led by one or more research leaders who are well established within their respective academic fields.
